A devastating road accident in Oman’s Duqm Sidra area claimed the lives of eight Bangladeshi expatriates from Chattogram on Wednesday, October 8, at around 3:20 PM local time. The victims were traveling in a microbus toward the fishing port when it collided head-on with a large container truck.
According to Asadul Haque, First Secretary (Labour) at the Bangladesh Embassy in Oman, the accident was so severe that eight workers died on the spot, while the driver was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Amin Soudagar, Arju, Mohammad Rocky, Mohammad Bablu, Sahab Uddin, Jewel, Roni, and Alauddin — all from Sandwip, Chattogram. Local officials reported deep grief in the Sarikait Union, where most victims were young laborers from the same community.
The Bangladesh Embassy confirmed that legal and formal procedures are underway to repatriate the bodies to Bangladesh. The embassy expressed condolences and prayed for the departed souls, while Omani authorities have launched an investigation into the cause, which is suspected to involve speeding and low visibility.
